Behuncik/Kooiman
Self-Tensioning Cog Drive System challenged by the threat of a patent infringement lawsuit.
On April 6, 2004, Mr. John Spurling of Pro-Drive, Inc. sent a registered letter through his lawyer threatening a user of the Behuncik/Kooiman Self-Tensioning Cog Drive System with a patent infringement lawsuit.  He demanded that the user immediately remove Behuncik's system from their helicopter.  He alleged that its use was a "direct infringement" of his patent.  He further demanded that there be no printing of any information about the Behuncik/Kooiman Cog Drive System in the Rotorheads Newsletter, as this would be considered “indirect infringement”.  His lawyer said that Mr. Spurling would sue the user in Federal Court if he did not immediately accept their demands.

The matter was turned over to an Illinois patent attorney to verify the validity of Mr. Spurling’s claims of patent infringement.  On June 11, 2004, a letter from the patent attorney was sent to Mr. Spurling’s attorney addressing his allegations.  You may click on the above links to read the letters from the lawyers.
